About

In January 2017, a dozen students, as a part of Jane Cassidy’s ART 408 studio class, set out to create time-based works of art inspired by the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama. This inspiration manifested itself in a variety of ways; some were inspired by individual pieces, some were inspired by a particular artist’s style or theme, and some were inspired by the concept of the collection as a whole.

The class began with still images, crafting digital collages (Photoshop composites) that reflected the students’ initial reactions to the collection. After that, they moved into the realm of motion graphics and learned how to create GIFs. The GIFs finally, the class dove headfirst into motion + sound and created their final pieces — videos.
